Board-Certified Rheumatologist

William P Maier, MD

Skill, patience, and excellence are what Dr. Maier brings to his patients.

William P. Maier, MD is a native Oregonian. While he was growing up, he lived in many towns around this beautiful state from Portland down the coast to Florence, and from Eugene over the Cascades to Bend. The family moved to several states and also to Nigeria, where Dr. Maier's father practiced medicine for several years. Dr. Maier returned to Oregon in 1991 to provide care for the residents of Lane County, and entered into private practice in 2003.

Dr. Maier graduated from college at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, magna cum-laude.

He received his four-year medical degree from the University of Arizona School of Medicine in Tucson.

He trained in Internal Medicine in Massachusetts for three years.

He completed his two-year rheumatology specialty fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, where he remained on faculty at the Emory School of Medicine and practiced at the Emory University Clinic for another six years until moving back to Oregon.

Dr. Maier enjoys running, biking, reading and traveling.

Teaching the next generation of physicians brings him much satisfaction, and you may be introduced to medical students and physician assistant students from OHSU --the Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, Oregon and pre-med students from the University of Oregon. We also have students from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific Northwest located in Lebanon, Oregon.

You will always have the option of private appointments without medical students.

Our rheumatologists have admitting arrangements with local hospitals:

  • Sacred Heart Medical Center/Hospital in the University area in Eugene

  • RiverBend Hospital in Springfield OR

  • McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center in Springfield, OR
